The specter of automotive emissions is not quite as popular these days as fuel economy. With all the discussion about hybrids, electrics, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, and the fuel-saving measures present in our modern cars, it’s easy to reduce environmental impact to a discussion of fuel.
There is, however, a much more visible and physically impactful aspect that we don’t think of as often, which is emissions. We’re used to seeing perfunctory descriptions of cars for their level of pollutants emitted, and it’s easy to forget that most cars these days still regularly emit exactly that—pollutants—into the air every time we run out to the store.
Honda produced the above video to give some context to how far automobiles have come in the past 40 years or so regarding smog and pollution, and also to remind us that this is still a massively important issue. With more countries across the globe providing more drivers, it’s important that we do all we can to create a future that is as pollution-free as possible. Air, after all, doesn’t stay within a country’s borders. It mixes and mingles and gets fed and recycled into clouds, water, dirt, everything, really.
In terms of vehicles, Honda’s had a good record thus far:
1996 Civic: World’s first low emissions vehicle
1998 Accord: World’s first ultra low emissions vehicle
2000 Accord: World’s first super ultra low emissions vehicle
2013 Plug-In Accord Hybrid: World’s first super ultra low emissions vehicle 20, the most stringent emissions standard to date
Join Honda in supporting the earth by reducing pollutants however you can.Honda produced the above video to give some context to how far automobiles have come in the past 40 years or so regarding smog and pollution, and also to remind us that this is still a massively important issue.
