Voting Opens for Teacher Appreciation Contest

LeithHondaTeachers

After weeks of receiving nominations for the most popular teachers in Wake, Chatham, Durham, Granville, Franklin, Nash, Johnston and Harnett Counties, we are now moving into the actual voting phase of Leith Honda’s 2014 Teacher Appreciation Contest. You have between Oct. 1 and Oct. 31 to vote.

But wait, weren’t we already voting? Nein. Sometimes if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it’s actually a banana. What we’ve been doing for the past couple of weeks is creating the pool of teachers to vote for. Think of it in terms of civil elections: previously we’ve been doing the primaries; now, it’s time for the general elections.

The good news is that voting is even easier than nominating. Select your choice, click submit, and you’re done. You can only vote once per day per IP address, which means that if you have multiple people in your household who want to vote, you might have to physically move to several locations to allow everyone to vote. That’s because your household’s internet connection only has one IP address, just like your house has only one mailing address. Every person in your house couldn’t have their own mailing address, right? That would be bonkers, and in poor taste.

For those wondering, an IP address is shorthand for your Internet address. It’s kind of tech speak, and we’re sure you can Google more if you want to really, truly and deeply understand. For now, just take our word for it: every voting person needs to have their own unique Internet connection.

Of course, this being a competition, some of you might be tempted to game the system and get people to vote who don’t know what they’re doing. Beware. George Washington is watching you. So is Alexander Hamilton, and he doesn’t mess around. This is America, and if we don’t have integrity in how we vote, then we ought not to have the right.

So get out there and vote, and remember that first prize is $500, second is $250 and third through tenth get $100 each. All prizes should be used for school supplies. You have the whole month to vote, and winners will be announced on November 4. Get to it!
