Skeletor Used Cyber Monday To Sneak On Honda’s Twitter

Everyone thought they had it figured out. Thanksgiving Thursday. Black Friday. Small Business Saturday. No one cares Sunday. Cyber Monday.

What people probably weren’t ready for was Skeletor, a 1980s comic book and cartoon villain in the He-Man universe, showing up on Honda’s Twitter feed and raining down tweets like it was his job.

Whether it actually was his job, in a paid marketing sense, has been debated by some on the Internet. Those of us who watch football likely saw this ad the day before about the CR-V. Not that the CR-V has been needing anyone’s help, even a man made of skeleton who is obsessed with ruling Castle Grayskull. (Side note: Why would he even want that? His skull is yellow.) The CR-V has already been the best-selling SUV in North America for seven of the last 10 years. This November saw a whopping 37.7 percent increase in sales over the previous year. That’s huge. Numbers like that don’t happen, particularly not with a range of competent competitors like the Ford Escape, Mazda 5, Nissan Pathfinder, Toyota RAV4 and Subaru Forester. The CR-V basically crushed them all.

As the above tweet indicates, Skeletor didn’t seem too concerned with Honda’s vehicles. He was more into asking People Magazine to reconsider their title of Sexiest Man Alive. That was more than enough to kick off the Internet into a full discussion of whether the Skeletakeover was for real. “Hacking” was a big buzzword.

Combined with the recent trailer for Blackhat, an upcoming movie whose trailer uses the words “hacker” or “hacking” several dozen times, we want to make a public service announcement:

  • Hacking isn’t a high-octane, super-cool, computer-nerd fiesta. That’s Hollywood. It just means dull, boring, grinding-it-out work on a computer. Like this:

super-computer-nerd

That said, we’re glad that Skeletor spiced up an otherwise unremarkable Monday and gave us something to talk about. If you’re looking for a Honda for sale in Raleigh, Autopark Honda would be pleased to help. Come by and see us!
